Kellie completed a Level 3 Diploma in Dog grooming and Salon Management
Looking back at my time as a student really makes me smile.
I loved training at Bone Idol Academy, I got such a buzz every time I finished a groom and saw the transformations! The study, class work, theory and hands on experience at the academy really cemented that dog grooming was the career for me.
During my time in training I started taking before and after pictures and built a personal portfolio of my work, mainly to track my progress, but keeping a record of all the amazing grooms really helped when I went into the world of work.

One year on from gaining your qualification in dog grooming, what's new?
In April this year I took the plunge and opened by own working from home salon, Dolly's Dog Grooming & Spa in Pulborough. It has been a fantastic experience and I love working for myself. All my clients are so friendly, and I love seeing the happy dogs transformed after their grooms.
To ease into my new career gently, I have continued to work part time in my former role as an online teacher. Another thing that has helped make the transition less scary is working at times with fellow Bone Idol alumni Carola Copland.
We both have our own specialisms in dog grooming (Carola's is handstripping) and we live close to each other, so we share clients. It is wonderful to have a friend and colleague who is on the same career course as me.

Why did you choose Bone Idol Academy?
When I chose Bone Idol Academy, I knew that I would receive the best training, support & qualification. The are such a friendly team and helped me every step of the way building my skills and confidence. Subsequently in my career, I have realised this even more, and I use what I learned at Bone Idol Academy every time I groom a dog.
I completed the iPet Level 3 Diploma in Grooming and Salon Management which give you so much more than other courses online.
I gained so much more than just an eduaction. I gained friends, experience, confidence and practical skills. You just can't compare this with purely online qualifaction or some other courses out there.
What would you say to some oneconsidering studying with Bone Idol Academy?
The hands-on training is excellent, you are grooming and working with dogs from the start. I learned so much and gained so much confidence during my time studying. I used to be nervous of doing things like nail trimming or a ‘hygiene’ clip, I can now do this without worrying. so I definitely grew in confidence during my time there.
It is scary going out there on your own when you qualify, but it's the most rewarding job, and I am so happy that I took the plunge.
